Signal peptides are short (5-30 amino acids in length) peptide chains that guide the transfer of newly synthesized proteins to the secretory pathway. Often refers to the N-terminal amino acid sequence (sometimes not necessarily at the N-terminal) used to guide the transmembrane transfer (positioning) of proteins in a newly synthesized polypeptide chain. After the start codon, there is an RNA region that encodes a hydrophobic amino acid sequence. This amino acid sequence is called a signal peptide sequence, which is responsible for guiding the protein to the cell's subcellular organelles with different membrane structures.
