IELTS Academic Writing Task 1

IELTS Writing test skill plays an essential role in assessing your English skills generally, and flexible ability to use English language in terms of specific written contexts. You will be asked to complete 2 writing tasks - Wring Task 1 and Writing Task 2. In this paper we will place more emphasis on Writing Task 1. Let's take a closer look at its structure, question types, Scoring and Assessment, and so on.

1. Structure

It’s suggested that you should spend around 20 minutes completing Writing task with at least 150 words. This task accounts for 1/3 of the IELTS Academic Writing total score.

The basic structure for the IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 normally includes:

🎯Introduction: paraphrase the input in your own words of what the graphs, tables, or diagrams exhibit
🎯Overview: state the general trend and/or the most outstanding features (without any details)
🎯Body 1: report features in detail with specific data & compare features
🎯Body 2: report features in detail with specific data & compare features

2. Types of Questions


In general, there are 7 types of questions asked in IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 namely:

🎯Pie chart
🎯Table
🎯Mixed charts
🎯Map
🎯Cycle – Process
